Entre Nos shows how living in a thick urban neighborhood is hard in light of the fact that the populace is so high which makes it harder to land positions and discover lodging. The film likewise shows how having an affectionate of companions in a major city can be advantageous and can assist you with prevailing in the urban condition. The battles of movement are associated to Entre Nos alongside the article â€Å"The Urban Prospect† by Lewis Mumford which examines the populace emergency in the thick urban condition. A thick urban neighborhood is characterized as a topographically associated territory with a populace thickness of at any rate 1,000 individuals for each square mile. Entre Nos happens in Queens, New York which is the fourth-most thickly populated district in the United States. Living in such a populated territory can cause numerous issues inside itself yet increments in the event that you are curious about the region like Mariana and her youngsters were in the film. Since there are such huge numbers of individuals in these thick neighborhoods, work and living plans are difficult to find. With work, individuals in the general work power in the United States need somebody instructed who can communicate in English smoothly. This is hard for individuals of movement in light of the fact that the dominant parts of them are remote and are getting the language of English. The instruction part is likewise hard on the grounds that typically they have been working the entirety of their lives t o help their families thus training was neither a need nor time reasonable. In the article â€Å"The Urban Prospect† Lewis Mumford states â€Å"Given the high densities for... ...ck into our economy. Taking everything into account, Entre Nos showed that the populace in a thick urban neighborhood is the reason for the lodging and work power being low. Without appropriate instruction and familiarity with the English language, it is more earnestly to get effective in the United States. The film likewise shows how having a dear companion while living in the large city can help you over the long haul. Individual settlers are attempting to work with one another not in rivalry. They share their experience and their insight with each other. The battle of workers was the last issue that emerged. While numerous foreigners are coming here to look for satisfaction in their lives, Americans have such a negative attitude toward them that they are not ready to support them. They see them are criminals for taking our cash instead of persevering individuals attempting to make a superior life for themselves.

The Day My Life Changed Essay -- essays papers

The Day My Life Changed I ventured through the entryway to my grandma and granddad's home without even a thump. My grandpa gazed upward from the TV he was viewing, from his comfortable comer seat. He had a head of blanketed white hair glimmering in the room. Over his wide body, hung a naval force blue dress shirt and a fluffy cardigan sweater. He wore slacks, held up ungracefully by a belt, permitting his little potbelly to hang over it. His face demonstrated the long periods of stress and stress, and his white ragged eyebrows and developing second jawline indicated his mature age. His grin welcomed me. As I gravitated toward to him, his maturing arms connected and folded over my body and maneuvered me into a warm cherishing embrace. As he discharged me from the embrace, I stated, Grandpa, I have some news I need you to hear as I thudded down in the seat close to him. I needed to tell you that I am getting hitched, I let him know. The room was left in a dead quietness, solidified for a short timeframe, as we recuperated from the power of the news I had brought him. Going after the remote to kill the TV, my granddad took a gander at me. Before he could state a word, the fervor of an inconspicuous grandma originated from the kitchen. Both our eyes looked toward the happy light and the hints of my grandma's energy As the fervor blurred away, his eyes moved in the direction of mine. Anticipating his remarks, my eyes were open wide. Energy had filled my body, due to the news I had recently brought him. Great, proceed...

The list is almost endless but the above devices seemed to exceed in appearance during the study.Organizations digging at the usage of m-commerce included Brick and Mortar Business, Big-box retailers and eBay. These organizations were found to use the m-commerce in almost every aspect of their operations, to deal with the changing technological times some of these organizations have integrated GPS in their operations i n that if a client orders for anything online, he or she doesn’t need to give direction and that they will deliver at the specific location shown on their mapping applications. It can also be targeted at giving clients the opportunity to entertain themselves as a means of assurance that Club IT has got them covered. The usage of bulk SMS and bulk email may be a good move to do this. Zeep mobile provides the services of bulk messaging and thus Club IT c an use their services as a SMS gateway. The use of this would be to reach out to as many people as possible, in which the end result would be a significant growth of Club IT’s clientele.ANALYZING A TPS FOR CLUB ITThe case of Club IT and its operations need to be monitored automatically and data compiled in presentable formats. If Club IT ventures into the m-commerce servicing, it would be advisable that they acquire a Transaction Processing System (TPS). To give guidelines according to the type of TPS they need to acquire, going by the research, it will be most appropriate for Club IT to establish the kind of payments they receive from clients. Then when installing a TPS it is the types of payments to Club It and the size of data and services they offer that will determine the kind and stability of the TPS that will manage the data, process the transactions, compile reports and move from the clients’ bank accounts to Club IT’s account. To minimize overspending the TPS to be us ed should be relevant to only performing the task and not in any way have a section of the program that isn’t being utilized. The purpose of TPS would be to do all the man power demanding tasks of transaction processing which in TPS case would cut off most of expenses and time in terms of seeing transactions go through. It would be beneficial in that it will be responsible of accounting and analyzing financial structure of Club IT. (Ee-Peng 2003)CONCLUSIONTypes of wireless devices used by Club IT clients have been identified and enlisted. Depicting a Bleak Future in Paul Ehrlichs Book,...

â€Å"Why Isn’t Everyone as Scared as We Are?† is a chapter within a book written by Paul Ehrlich back in 1990 called the ‘Population Explosion’. It follows on from a previous book written by Ehrlich in 1968 called the ‘Population Bomb’ and depicts the bleak future for the earth created by overpopulation. The chapter points out links between overpopulation and problems of today including; pollution, poverty, resource depletion and environmental damage including habitat destruction and land clearing. I believe that at this point in time the fact that we have a major problem regarding population and environmental sustainability is well known. However, the â€Å"facts† in this chapter arent conveyed in a manner that reaches out to the general population in an effective way. To make a real difference, the facts (and the real facts at that, not predictions) need to be shown in a way that is not just overwhelming and will demonstrate how the issue at hand pertains to individuals, not just the world as a whole. This will make people care and in return contemplate the population issue, the cause and effects and possibly solutions. The doomsday language that was used by Ehrlich throughout the chapter along with the portrayal of death, â€Å"might result in the premature deaths of a billion or more people in the next few decades, and the AIDS epidemic could slaughter hundreds of millions† creates great fear and a sense of the inevitable. Although he succeeded in creating a c onversation that was

The Health Care Market Of Northeast Ohio - 1580 Words

The health care market in Northeast Ohio has garnered an enormous amount of changes within the last few years. These changes have been seen prominently within the health care market for children with serious illnesses. Hospitals that have not been involved in pediatrics are now emerging into this particular field. In order to contest this, Akron Children’s Hospital (ACH) decided to try to figure out how the selection of institutions and physicians amongst parents with seriously ill children work. This is an effort to differentiate itself from other health care providers entering the pediatric care market. The advertising strategies within the major hospital in the area had some similarities; a more distinctive adverting strategy was sought after. The research was conducted to identify the best way in which to communicate to give the hospital a competitive advantage over its competitors. Marcus Thomas LLC, the research company that was contracted by Akron Children s Hospital. This marketing research company utilized phone interviews, focus groups and surveys to learn the behaviors used in the decision-making process. With each research method that was conducted parents who have children between the ages of one month to eighteen years were sampled target. The target area that was sampled exceeded the county where Akron Children’s Hospital is based. It can be inferred from the survey that decision makers use emotions and not rational thinking. The Silver Linings Playbook Chapter 39 Free Essays

string(54) " me really sad because Danny was a good friend to me\." An Episode Seems Inevitable I rise before dawn on Christmas morning and begin my weight-lifting routine. I am nervous about being reunited with Nikki today, so I double-time my exercises in an effort to work off my anxiety. I realize the note Tiffany gave me last night suggests that Nikki might not be interested in meeting me at that special place once dusk rolls around, but I also know that in the movies, just when the main character is about to give up, something surprising happens, which leads to the happy ending. We will write a custom essay sample on The Silver Linings Playbook Chapter 39 or any similar topic only for you Order Now I’m pretty sure that this is the part of my movie when something surprising will happen, so I am trusting in God, who I know will not let me down. If I have faith, if I go to that special place, something beautiful will happen when the sun sets – I can feel it. When I hear Christmas music, I stop lifting and go upstairs. My mother is cooking eggs and bacon. Coffee is brewing. â€Å"Merry Christmas,† Mom says, and gives me a little kiss on the cheek. â€Å"Don’t forget your pills.† I take the orange bottles from the cabinet and twist off the lids. As I swallow my last pill, my father comes into the kitchen and throws the newspaper’s plastic cover into the waste bucket. When he turns and heads for the family room, my mother says, â€Å"Merry Christmas, Patrick.† â€Å"Merry Christmas,† Dad mumbles. We eat eggs and bacon and toast together as a family, but no one says much. In the living room we sit around the tree. Mom opens her present from Dad. It’s a diamond necklace from some department store – tiny diamonds in the shape of a heart on a thin gold chain. I know for a fact that Mom has a similar necklace, because she wears it almost every day. My father probably gave her the same thing last year, but Mom acts really surprised and says, â€Å"Patrick, you shouldn’t have,† before she kisses my father on the lips and then hugs him. Even though Dad doesn’t hug Mom back, I can tell he is happy, because he sort of smirks. Next, we give Dad his present, which is from both Mom and me. He tears off the wrapping paper and holds up an authentic Eagles jersey, not one with iron-on decals. â€Å"Why doesn’t it have any numbers or a name on it?† he asks. â€Å"Since McNabb went down, we thought you’d want to pick a new favorite player,† Mom says. â€Å"So when you do, we’ll have the correct number and name sewn onto the jersey.† â€Å"Don’t waste your money,† Dad says, putting the jersey back into the box. â€Å"They won’t win today without McNabb. They’re not going to make the play-offs. I’m done watching that lousy excuse for a football team.† Mom smiles at me because I told her that Dad would say as much, even though the Eagles have been playing pretty well. But Mom and I both know Dad will be watching the Eagles play the Cowboys later today and will pick a new favorite player late next summer – after watching one or two preseason games – at which time he will say something like, â€Å"Jeanie, where’s my authentic Eagles jersey? I want to get those numbers sewn on before the season starts.† A few dozen presents are for me, all of which Mom bought and wrapped. I get a new Eagles sweatshirt, new running shoes, workout clothes, dress clothes, a few ties, a brand-new leather jacket, and a special running watch that will help me time my runs and will even calculate the calories I burn while running. And – â€Å"Jesus Christ, Jeanie. How many presents did you buy the kid?† Dad says, but in a way that lets us know he is not really all that mad. After we eat lunch, I shower and put on underarm deodorant, some of my father’s cologne, and one of my new running outfits. â€Å"I’m going to try out my new watch,† I tell Mom. â€Å"Caitlin and your brother will be here in an hour,† Mom says. â€Å"So don’t be too long.† â€Å"I won’t,† I say just before I exit the house. In the garage, I change into the dress clothes I hid there earlier in the week – tweed pants, a black button-down shirt, leather loafers, and the expensive overcoat my father no longer wears. Next, I walk to the Collingswood PATCO stop and catch the 1:45 train to Philadelphia. It begins to rain lightly. I get off at Eighth and Market, walk through the drizzle to City Hall, and catch an Orange Line train headed north. Not many people are on the train, and underground it does not feel like Christmas at all. But the trash-smelling steam that wafts in at every stop when the doors open, the marker graffiti on the orange seat across from me, the half-eaten hamburger lying bunless in the aisle – none of it brings me down, because I am about to be reunited with Nikki. Apart time is finally about to end. I get off at Broad and Olney and climb the steps up into North Philly, where it is raining a little harder. Even though I remember being mugged twice near this subway stop when I was a college student, I do not worry, mostly because it’s Christmas and I am a lot stronger than I used to be when I was an undergraduate. On Broad Street I see a few black people, which gets me thinking about Danny and how he always used to talk about going to live with his aunt in North Philly just as soon as he got out of the bad place – especially whenever I mentioned my graduating from La Salle University, which is apparently close to where Danny’s aunt lives. I wonder if Danny ever made it out of the bad place, and the thought of him having Christmas in a mental institution makes me really sad because Danny was a good friend to me. You read "The Silver Linings Playbook Chapter 39" in category "Essay examples" I stick my hands into my dad’s overcoat pockets as I walk down Olney. With the rain, it is sort of cold. Soon I am seeing the blue-and-yellow flags that line the campus streets, and it makes me feel happy and sad at the same time to be back at La Salle – almost like looking at old pictures of people who have either died or with whom you have lost contact. When I get to the library, I turn left and walk past the tennis courts, where I make a right and stroll past the security building. Beyond the tennis courts is a walled-in hill, with so many trees you’d never believe it was in North Philly if someone had led you here blindfolded and then removed the blindfold and asked, â€Å"Where do you think you are?† At the bottom of the hill is a Japanese teahouse, which is as picturesque as it is out of place in North Philly, although I have never been inside to have tea – because it is a private teahouse – so maybe the inside has a city feel to it; I don’t know. Nikki and I used to meet on this hill, behind an old oak tree, and sit on the grass for hours. Surprisingly, not many students hung out in this spot. Maybe they did not know it was there. Maybe no one else thought it was a nice spot. But Nikki loved sitting on the grassy hill and looking down at the Japanese teahouse, feeling as though she were somewhere else in the world – somewhere other than North Philadelphia. And if it weren’t for the occasional car horn or gunshot in the distance, I would have believed I was in Japan when I was sitting on that hill, even though I have never been to Japan and don’t really know what being in that particular country is like. I sit down under a huge tree – on a dry spot of grass – and wait. Rain clouds swallowed the sun a long time ago, but when I look at my watch, the numbers officially make it dusk. My chest starts to feel tight; I notice that I am shaking and breathing heavily. I hold my hand out to see how bad the shakes are, and my hand is flapping like the wing of a bird, or maybe it is as if I am hot and trying to fan myself with my fingers. I try to make it stop, and when I can’t, I shove both hands into my father’s overcoat pockets, hoping Nikki will not notice my nervousness when she shows up. It grows darker, and then even darker. Finally, I close my eyes, and after a time, I begin to pray: Dear God: If I did something wrong, please let me know what it was so I can make amends. As I search my memory, I can’t think of anything that would make You mad, except for my punching the Giants fan a few months ago, but I already asked for forgiveness regarding that slip, and I thought we had moved on. Please make Nikki show up. When I open my eyes, please let her be there. Maybe there was traffic, or she forgot how to get to La Salle? She always used to get lost in the city. I’m okay with her not showing up exactly at dusk, but please let her know that I am still here waiting and will wait all night if I have to. Please, God. I’ll do anything. If You make her show up when I open – I smell a woman’s perfume. I recognize the scent. I breathe in deeply to ready myself. I open my eyes. â€Å"I’m fucking sorry, okay?† she says, but it’s not Nikki. â€Å"I never thought it would lead to this. So I’m just going to be honest now. My therapist thought you were stuck in a constant state of denial because you were never afforded closure, and I thought I might afford you closure by pretending to be Nikki. So I made up the whole liaison thing in an effort to provide you closure, hoping you would snap out of your funk and would be able to move on with your life once you understood that being reunited with your ex-wife was an impossibility. I wrote all the letters myself. Okay? I never even contacted Nikki. She doesn’t even know you’re sitting here. Maybe she doesn’t even know you are out of the neural health facility. She’s not coming, Pat. I’m sorry.† I’m staring up into Tiffany’s soaking-wet face – wet hair, runny makeup – and I can hardly believe that it’s not Nikki. Her words do not register at first, but when they do, I feel my chest heating up, and an episode seems inevitable. My eyes burn. My face flushes. Suddenly I realize that for the past two months I have been completely delusional, that Nikki is never coming back and apart time is going to last forever. Nikki. Is. Never. Coming. Back. Never. I want to hit Tiffany. I want to pound her face with my knuckles until the bones in my hands crumble and Tiffany is completely unrecognizable, until she no longer has a face from which she can spew lies. â€Å"But everything I said in the letters was true. Nikki did divorce you, and she is remarried, and she even took out a restraining order against you. I got all the information from – â€Å" â€Å"You liar!† I say, realizing that I am now crying again. â€Å"Ronnie told me that I shouldn’t trust you. That you were nothing but a – â€Å" â€Å"Please, just listen to me. I know this is a shock. But you need to face reality, Pat. You’ve been lying to yourself for years! I needed to do something drastic to help you. But I never thought – â€Å" â€Å"Why?† I say, feeling as if I might vomit, feeling as though my hands might find Tiffany’s throat at any moment. â€Å"Why did you do this to me?† Tiffany looks into my eyes for what seems like a long time, and then her voice sort of quivers like my mom’s does when she is saying something she really truly means. Tiffany says, â€Å"Because, I’m in love with you.† And then I am up and running. At first Tiffany follows me, but – even though I am in my leather loafers and it is raining pretty steadily now – I am able to find the man speed she does not have, running faster than I ever have before, and after taking enough turns and weaving through enough traffic, I look back and Tiffany is gone, so I slow my running a bit and jog aimlessly for what seems like hours. I sweat through the rain, and my father’s overcoat becomes very heavy. I can’t even begin to think about what this all means. Betrayed by Tiffany. Betrayed by God. Betrayed by my own movie. I’m still crying. I’m still jogging. And then I’m praying again, but not in a nice way. God, I didn’t ask for a million dollars. I didn’t ask to be famous and powerful. I didn’t even ask for Nikki to take me back. I only asked for a meeting. A single face-to-face conversation. All I’ve done since I left the bad place was try to improve myself – to become exactly what You tell everyone to be: a good person. And here I am running through North Philly on a rainy Christmas Day – all alone. Why did You give us so many stories about miracles? Why did You send Your Son down from heaven? Why did You give us movies if life doesn’t ever end well? What kind of fucking God are You? Do You want me to be miserable for the rest of my life? Do You – Something hits my shin hard, and then my palms are sliding across the wet concrete. I feel kicks landing on my back, my legs, my arms. I curl up into a ball, trying to protect myself, but the kicking continues. When it feels as though my kidneys have exploded, I look up to see who is doing this to me, but I only see the bottom of a sneaker just before it strikes my face. Religion, The State And Sovereignty Essay Example For Students

Religion, The State And Sovereignty Essay The influence of religion on humankind can be traced back to the first records of history. Religion has served as a pillar of strength to some and binding chains to others. There are vast amounts of information and anthropological studies revealing the interaction of religion and humankind. However, for the purposes of this paper, the time periods of study will be broken up into three sections. Each section will give a general description of how religion affected the institution of the state and its Sovereignty in a Euro-centric perspective. The first period is the early period, which will encompass from Christianity and the Roman Empire to the Medieval times (approx. 311 to 1100 A.D.). The second period will include the Renaissance, the Reformation to the Treaty of Westphalia (1101 to 1648 A.D.). The third and increment of history will range from 1649 to 1945 A.D. The date 311 A.D. marks the issuing of the Edict of Toleration for Christians. This date is important because it symboli zes national acceptance of Christianity, and planted its roots as a political institution. Later the Roman Empire on the verge of internal collapse acknowledged the importance of Christianity and used it to hold together the remnants of it former self. This adoption of Christianity took form and eventually became the Catholic church. The church became intermingled with politics and became a strong entity. The policies delivered from the church had more authority than the local rulers and magistrates of the developing feudal system. For example, St. Augustine wrote about war and what justified its enactment against fellow men. This policy was followed and adhered to for hundreds of years after St. Augustine wrote it. Another example, is the use of the Bible as a guideline for establishing governing systems. Scripture portrayed God as choosing the king of the people. The pope, being Gods representative was then given the authority to crown the king. This crowning process gave the pope large influence in the political arena. This ritual continued for a number of centuries. The Crusades, which occurred around 1100 A.D., played a crucial role in challenging the churchs authority. The pope identifying the spread of Islam as evil requested all of Europe embark on a Crusade to defeat the infidels. As the battles were fought, great treasures were found in the form of books and knowledge. These books were crude translations of old Greek texts, containing information which would eventually produce the waning of Church authority in the future. The Renaissance marked the beginning of intellectual re-birth. Writers such as Dante, Machiavelli, Guiarccidini, Vitoria, etc., all attempting to reform and some even contest church dominance. Dante in his imaginative work Inferno writes of hell which he envision is the popes final destination. Machiavelli takes a more direct role classifying the actions of a prince to be above morality and ultimately above the Church. He continues the affront by classifying a human character of virtu as being completely centered around man (humanism). The Raison D Tat is supreme especially in terms of the church belligerence. In the middle of the Renaissance, the Church was dealt a deadly blow from which it would never recover. This assault came via Martin Luther. His work, 95 Thesis, marked the beginning of the Reformation. This movement split the church into Catholic and Protestant sects. It marked the beginning of a bloody period which virtually split Europe in half. Examples of the conflict raged between Protestants and Catholics from the great slaughter of Protestants in Paris 1572 A.D. (7000 dead) to the Thirty Years War. With the Church in disarray, freedom was given to the state to begin to develop. During this period of Renaissance the political identity was going through a tremendous transformation. This transformation took form in what is called Absolutism. Princes began to tolerate less and less manipulation from the church. The political entity in the form of monarchy began to wean itself from the Church for its legitimacy and looked toward its own power. .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de , .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .postImageUrl , .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de , .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de:hover , .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de:visited , .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de:active { border:0!important; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de:active , .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua5b2283ef17e455bc7b2c6f75cb725de:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Life Lessons I've Learned from Baking EssayOther writers began to rise and discuss issues of sovereignty and the state. Thomas Hobbes discusses the state and refers to it as Leviathan which is the concurring title of his work. Believing man to be evil, Hobbes fashions his description of the state as the mechanism to control and harness the capabilities of man. There can be no peace as long as there is not absolute surrender to reason. The states interest is supreme, as well as, its authority. These ideas were written in direct opposition to the church and its history. Hobbes desired a complete refutation of the Churchs influence in government. Hobbes portrays a state as sovereign. The sovereignty of the state is in direct relation to its longevity and basic existence. State sovereignty must be perpetual and supreme. The authority of this described state would over-shadow the authority of the church. Continuing historically, the development of the thirty years war was significant in its unique result. The treaty of Westphelia was the agreement which not only settled the war, but gave absolute authority to the sovereign of each individual state. This was accomplished by granting the sovereign the right to choose which religion he/she desired and that in turn transferred down to the people. Thus, once again the authority of the church was restricted, however this time by the emergence of an institution called the state. During this period states begin to develop colonies and exploration of the new world. The discoveries and travel further challenged church authority. An example of this is the well founded scientific fact that the earth was flat. After such journeys by Columbus and Magellan, the concept of churchs monopoly on truth was attacked once again. The third period in history starts with the age of reason. Its intellectual basis of the time period is science and natural law. Empiricism plays a fundamental role in church legitimacy. Factual concrete proof of God and his work is not provided by science. States begin to mature politically as colonial powers. The Church or rather the concept of religion is still strong but begins a transformation during the Enlightenment. From Religion ideas of morality and natural law arise. Locke addresses the role of the government of a state. He portrays the ideas of a social contract between the people and its government. He continued by pointing out that the government has a commitment with the people it must with hold. Lockes writings also contained concepts concerning of natural rights which are inherent to human beings. This developed and identified that power now comes from the people. These people from which the government is derived and power (legitimacy) have rights and will be safe-gu arded by the people. The French and American Revolutions harnessed the ideas which the enlightenment wrote and discussed. The French Revolution exemplified the early stages of nationalism. Nationalism derives from a grouping of people who share common cultural and social experiences. From nationalism the concept of self-determination is derived.Phrases like, We the People. . . began to show up in constitutions and declarations, which showed consensus among people with like-minded purposes. The inception of positive law was the last and final blow to the concept of religion. Positive law is fashioned and codified by man. The law has replaced the concept of morality. The framework which laws create make the state and its sovereign powers legitimate and legal. States no longer operate in terms of what is just but on whether the legality for the action or jurisdiction have application. The evolution of the state and its sovereignty is clear. The Church once being a dominant political factor has been reduced to a mere whisper of advice. The influence of religion in instituting or in the elective process of choosing a representative ruler has been severely minimized. Sovereignty and the institution of the State has surpassed predestination and Divine Right of Kings. .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa , .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .postImageUrl , .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa , .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa:hover , .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa:visited , .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa:active { border:0!important; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa:active , .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8ee2dcd08d620239a6e116745620a1fa:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Joseph Stalin EssayCategory: Religion

The feasibility Analysis for the Rope

Overview This new product is a device that uses pre-recorded voice command to control the movement of pets within homes. This is a wireless device that is fixed on the pet’s collar; it transmits and receives information from another device that the owner carries. The device functions within a limited radius in such a way that if the dog happens to go beyond the pre-determined radius, the recorded voice automatically controls the dog’s movement.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The feasibility Analysis for the Rope-less Dog Lead specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The inclusion of the processor makes the device very interesting to use. This is because it will have the ability to restrict the distance between the dog and the master control radio. This means that the device is very specific and accurate. The part to be attached to the dog’s collar will allow for enough space to avoid choking as exp erienced in tethering. The tracking function will be necessary in cases where the master fails to respond owing to mechanical problems (Reilly and Millikin 1-6). Marketing The exploration of different sales models and prices for other devices indicates that the Rope-less dog lead will be attractive and of benefit to the market. The findings included the fact that for the company to progress, building a strong brand name will be necessary. This can be done by forming good relationship with retail chains all over the country. The company will mostly target the areas with dense populations and currently the statistics shows that population density is high in city centres (Dwyer, â€Å"Pet market Analysis Australia-Dog, Cat†). The pricing of this device must take into account the costs that the owner incurs on pets and substitute products. The cost of the device should consider training on its operations, it also depends on the type of animal it is used on, for dogs the price sho uld be around $ 100 considering that total cost of owning a dog can be as high as $ 500 annually (Dwyer, â€Å"Pet market Analysis Australia-Dog, Cat†). The population distribution of pets in Australia has experienced a general decline in major cities and towns in the recent years. This might be attributed to ineffectiveness of prior devices to control pets’ movements; this clearly shows that the effectiveness of Rope-less dog lead will attract more customers irrespective of its price. The table below indicates the population distribution of pets collected in the year 2005 (Dwyer, â€Å"Pet market Analysis Australia-Dog, Cat†). Australian Pet Ownership Statistics 2005 (‘000) Pet Type NSW/ACT VIC QLD WA SA/NT TAS TOTAL Dogs 1,219 894 819 338 373 111 3,754 Cats 804 599 443 261 227 92 2,426 The device also minimises the cost of having extra labour during its installation as compared to copper wire perimeter. The use of copper wire will involve extra activities like putting up poles and measuring the distance required for effectiveness of the perimeter wire. The owner is relieved of the tiresome work of always monitoring the pet, with this device the dog will monitor itself by responding to the pre-recorded command.Advertising Looking for report on other technology? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Competitive advantage Though several devices have been used in this industry, there is not a single one of them that has tried to apply the technology that Rope-less dog lead uses. The device has got the ability of creating a wireless restrictive perimeter around the home. If assumptions are made that the device can capture at least 5% of the market in the first year and the growth of its demand within the market share stands at 30% then the conclusion is that it will be an attractive profitable adventure. Currently competition is from Laser pointers whose coming into the market so it replaces the tethering method. Later it was found that the beam from laser pointers was dangerous to the pet’s sight, and that it could only be utilized at night. This provides a loop hole for Rope-less dog lead to utilize since it can be used all the time. However, Laser pointers which might have posed major competition to this device face some problems with the Australian government. Its sales and importation have been restricted and only certain classes allowed due to its security threats. Empirical survey must be conducted within the cities to determine the responses of the consumers and to establish both negative and positive impacts of the device on the market (Meyers 1). With the necessary improvements, the device has the capability of controlling large market share despite the presence of the competitors. This will basically rely on the strength of the image of the device through its brand name. The expansion of the device must consider as first priority assist ing the owners and increasing on sales. This should also put into consideration the kind of business models to employ that might guarantee profitable returns in case the firm plans to exit. Whats the Most Stolen Book from Libraries

Whats the Most Stolen Book from Libraries It may not come as a huge surprise that the book thats most stolen from public libraries is The Guinness Book of World Records. The books popularity is irrefutable. It serves as a form of trivia, entertainment and to settle arguments over any kind of fact, whether its whos the fastest runner, which is the biggest city or the most populous country. Whatever you can imagine, the Guinness Book has it all. The Idea Is Born The concept of creating such a book took place 60 years ago when Englishman Sir Hugh Beaver, Director of the Guinness Brewery that brews the famous Guinness Beer, attended a shooting party. An argument occurred over which European game bird was the fastest. There was no record or reference book that could settle the argument. The First Edition Sir Hugh, with the assistance of twins Norris and Ross McWhirter who ran a fact-finding industry in London, founded the company Guinness Superlatives. The twins research formed the first Guinness Book of Records which was released in the UK in 1955 and became a bestseller in its first edition. The following year, it was released in the United States and also became an immediate bestseller. International Acknowledgment Since its first publishing, the book has gone on to worldwide success. Today, its published in 31 languages including Mandarin, Icelandic and Arabic. Its also expanded into the entertainment industry, with several television programs in different countries including the United States, Portugal, China, Turkey, Italy and Germany, among others. The shows have all been highly successful and often feature live performances by record holders. The first Guinness Book of Records show was launched in the UK where the books original researchers Norris and Ross McWhirter answered questions posed by children in the audience. The twins were known to have encyclopedic memories and were able to recall even the most obscure facts on the spot. Today, there are several Guinness World Records museums in cities like Hollywood, Tokyo, Copenhagen and San Antonio. The franchise sells interactive DVDs and a video game for Nintendo Wii. There is even a Guinness World Records Day founded in 2005. The book itself has been cited as holding world records. In 1999, it set the record of being the largest single print run of a case-bound book in color with 2,402,000 copies printed. In 1995, the company earned a visit to the London office by Queen Elizabeth II on its 50th anniversary. In 2006, Michael Jackson visited the New York Office where he received a special award for his record breaking album Thriller. Types of Records The type of records in the book can be as varied as you can imagine. The man holding the record for most tattooed human is Lucky Diamond Rich, who set the record in 2006 with 100% of his body covered in tattoos including his tongue, the rims of his eyes, inside of his ears and his â€Å"delicate† areas. In 2009, Ashrita Furman of Queens, New York, won the record for being the â€Å"Person with the most records† with 100 confirmed records. Over the years, some decisions were made to eliminate certain records from the book in order to promote public safety. Eating and drinking records, as well as sword-swallowing records were taken out in order to avoid potential legal suits for publishing facts that promote hazardous behavior. Proving a record is no easy feat and Guinness teams are responsible for analyzing claims in order to ensure their veracity. Claims are made through written applications that take 4-6 weeks to process. A quicker response can be gained by paying a fee of $450. With such a rich and entertaining history, its no wonder that the book also holds the record for being the most stolen book from public libraries.

Specialty Courts Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Specialty Courts - Essay Example Specialty courts have different goals depending on the category of specialty courts they are. There are therapeutic courts and nontherapeutic courts. The aim of therapeutic courts is the improvement of personal health in various areas such as treatment of mental health and substance problems. The courts also seek to try to increase court efficiency. As for nontherapeutic courts, their main objective is to increase court efficiency. Judges and court staff with special training would make this objective achievable, as they would decrease the time required to solve cases. Efficiency would, in turn, minimize uncertainty, disruptions and even stress associated with cases dragging on for long. The main aim of unified family courts is to have the management of all issues that pertain to a single family in one place. Such issues include divorce, equitable division of property, child custody and juvenile delinquency. The emphasis of these courts is on rehabilitation and safeguarding the inter ests of children. On the other hand, DTCs aim at treating people under criminal charges and who have problems with drugs and alcohol. They aim at reducing the rates of rearrest for offenses related to substance abuse. The authors planned to evaluate the specialty courts in two steps. First, they would assess how the presence of unified family courts and drug treatment courts in a North Carolina influenced the time children stayed under foster care and the placement they got when leaving foster care.

Textual Analysis - Essay Example Victor’s father’s death is the central event that unites Victor and Thomas. Without this death, in Phoenix, Arizona, both men would have continued to live their lives unchanged. As the trip begins, Victor wants only money from Thomas to make this trip alone. When Thomas stipulates that Victor can only have money for the trip, if he is allowed to come along, Victor reluctantly agrees. As the journey unfolds Victor finds that Thomas is worth much more than the money for the trip. Although it is no exaggeration to say that the trip is the most important event to accomplish in the beginning, in the end the trip itself was the important event. The use of flashback in this story helps the reader understand the past between Victor and Thomas. Without the understanding of Victor and Thomas’ past, the reader would be unable to grasp the importance of the trip for Victor’s father’s ashes. Since they are both Native Americans, death and life are perceived differently on the reservation, than in the white community of Spokane, Washington. Thomas’ storytelling relates the foundation of both young men in order for the reader to understand the importance of the trip. Not only Victor, but Thomas had a special relationship with Victor’s father as well. Thomas told Victor of the remembrance with his father during the long journey. He was thirteen years old, having a dream to get to Spokane. He stood there for awhile to have a vision at the falls waiting for the vision all Native American men have around that age. Instead of a vision, when he opened his eyes Victor’s father appeared. He took Thomas to a Denny’s restaurant, fed him and drove him home to the reservation. And then Thomas realized Victor’s father was his vision and dream that people are living under taking care of each other. He almost thought his dream betrayed him before that, but he was salvaged

False Killer Whale Facts

False killer whales are part of class Mammalia and can be found in temperate and tropical waters. They spend most of their time in deeper waters but sometimes travel to coastal areas. Their genus name Pseudorca comes from the Greek word Pseudes, which means false. False killer whales are the third largest dolphin species. False killer whales are so named due to the similarity of their skull shape to killer whales. Fast Facts Scientific Name: Pseudorca crassidensCommon Names: False killer whalesOrder: CetaceaBasic Animal Group: MammalSize: 19 to 20 feet for males and 14 to 16 feet for femalesWeight: Around 5,000 pounds for males and 2,500 pounds for femalesLife Span: 55 years on averageDiet: Tuna, squid, and other fishHabitat: Warm temperate or tropical watersPopulation: Estimated 60,000Conservation Status: Near threatenedFun Fact: In rare cases, false killer whales have mated with bottlenose dolphins and created a hybrid known as a wolphin Description False killer whales have dark gray or black skin with a lighter gray throat. Their dorsal fin is tall and tapered to stabilize them as they swim, and their flukes propel them in the water. These dolphins have 8 to 11 teeth on either side of their jaw, and their upper jaw extends slightly beyond the lower jaw, which gives them a beaked look. They have bulbous foreheads, a long slim body, and long S-shaped flippers. Habitat and Distribution These dolphins are found across the world in temperate and tropical waters, preferring deeper waters at depths averaging 1,640 feet. Not much is known about any migration patterns because the populations are so spread out and they tend to stay in deeper water. The current knowledge of false killer whales comes from one population that lives off the shallower coasts of Hawaii. Diet and Behavior The diet of a false killer whale consists of fish like tuna and squid. They have attacked larger marine animals like smaller dolphins, but scientists are unsure if the purpose is to remove competition or for food. These dolphins can eat as much as 5% of their body weight every day. They hunt in dispersed subgroups during both day and night, swimming at depths of 980 to 1640 feet at high speeds for minutes at a time. They have been known to throw fish high into the air before eating them and to share prey. Pod of false killer whales, Revillagigedo Islands, Socorro, Baja California, Mexico. Romona Robbins Photography / Getty Images These dolphins are highly social creatures, swimming together in groups of 10 to 40 individuals. Some dolphins join superpods, which are congregations of up to 100 dolphins. Occasionally, they have been spotted swimming with bottlenose dolphins as well. During social events, they will leap out of the water and perform flips. They love to swim in the wake of ships and will even jump out of the water over the wake. They communicate via high pitched clicks and whistles, using echolocation to find other members of the group. Reproduction and Offspring While they breed year-round, false killer whales’ breeding tends to peak in late winter/early spring in December to January and again in March. Females reach sexual maturity between 8 and 11 years, while males reach sexual maturity between 8 and 10 years. Females’ gestation period is 15 to 16 months, and lactation lasts for up to two years. It is thought that females wait about seven years before having another calf. Between 44 and 55 years old, the females will enter menopause and become less successful reproductively. At birth, calves are just 6.5 feet in length and are capable of swimming alongside their mothers shortly after birth. Females typically only have one calf per breeding season. The mother nurses the baby for up to two years. Once the calf is weaned, it is likely to remain in the same pod it was born into. Threats There are four major threats that cause false killer whale populations to decline. The first is getting caught in fishing gear because they may get tangled as they take bait from fishing nets. A second is competition with fisheries, as their primary food—tuna—is also harvested by humans. The third is a risk of stranding due to environmental pollutants that disrupt their signals to each other. Finally, in Indonesia and Japan, they are hunted. Conservation Status False killer whales are designated as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In Hawaii, they have issued changes in gear that allow animals to be released if accidentally caught. They have also removed seasonal contracts for fisheries to reduce overlap between fishing season and the false killer whale population. Sources Baird, R. W. False Killer Whale.
